Nishan and Yasmin Ezz Dispute Returns to Spotlight with New Dubai Ruling

The Dubai Court ordered Lebanese media personality Nishan to pay AED 50,000 in compensation to Egyptian media personality Yasmin Ezz, in a new chapter of the legal dispute that began following an incident at the Arab Media Forum in 2023.

The new ruling comes against the backdrop of the lawsuit related to the dispute that erupted between Nishan and Yasmin Ezz during the forum’s events in Dubai, after comments made by the Lebanese media personality about his colleague sparked a widespread controversy that eventually led to legal proceedings in the UAE and Egypt.

The incident dates back to September 2023, when Nishan and Yasmin Ezz were scheduled to participate in a session at the Arab Media Forum in Dubai. However, the Egyptian media personality’s delay in attending prompted Nishan to moderate the session alone and comment on her absence with remarks she considered offensive, leading the incident to later develop into a legal dispute.

In the UAE, the Dubai Court of Cassation upheld in March 2025 a ruling convicting Nishan in the case related to the incident and imposed a fine of AED 10,000, making the ruling final in that legal proceeding.

Meanwhile, the case also took a legal course in Egypt, where the Cairo Economic Court ruled in April 2025 to sentence Nishan to one month in prison, with a bail of EGP 5,000 and a temporary suspension of the sentence, and ordered him to pay EGP 50,000 in temporary civil compensation, over allegations of insulting and defaming Yasmin Ezz.

Nishan’s defense had appealed the Egyptian ruling, while legal proceedings related to the dispute between the two parties continued.

The ruling issued in Dubai today adds a new chapter to the case, which began with an exchange of remarks during a media event before its repercussions moved into courtrooms in more than one country.
